That's normal when the driveshaft comes out and the transmission is tilted back like that. It actually acts like a plug to keep the transmission fluid in, that's why there's a seal back there. Just to make sure of things though, look for any damage around there such as cracks. Doubt you've hurt anything, driveshaft probably just slipped out with no problem just making a mess.

No way you guys are nuts, he broke the transmission! J/K

Since you have the transmission out your going to have to replace the output shaft seal. When the driveshaft slipped out under load it most likely made a nice crack in the seal. No big deal $7 just make sure to rub some grease on the new seal before you put the driveshaft back in.

Pry it out with a screwdriver and tap it back in with a hammer. Try to keep it straight going in, and lube the sealing surface with grease or vasoline before you put the driveshaft back in.

I always take one of my great big sockets that fits around the metal part of the new seal and hit it with the hammer to put the new seal in. Round here we call that a ******* press. Works every time.

Get a new seal, and replace the old one with it. They are cheap enough, and then you don't have to do it later. They are like $5-10 cdn at the parts store I work at.

One more question if i wanted to put the car in park from under the car would the little arm connected to the linkage be pushed towards the front of the car or the back i want to put the car in park from under the car since i dont know what its in and the linkage is broke???????

PArk is all the way towards the front of the car. when you pull it into gear it pulls back, when you put it into park, it pushes forward.

There should be no gap in the cable because the cable is pulled backwards into the car when you pull it down into 1st. When you push it back into park, the cable pushes back out and pushes the lever forwards.
