Help Me With Tranny Choice

Ok here is my delima I currently have NWC T-5 in the car that is very hard to hit 4th due to a fugged input shaft. Plus the fact that A stock T-5 is weak and can't endour a lot of H.P. I decided to buy a new tranny.

Now I have looked a G-force and spoke to them, their Rebuild kit and there included Super Strong Gear kit and replacing anything that is broke or worn out Would cost like $1600-$2000.00 and is good for 600Hp+

Problem is their gear kits won't work on my NWC T-5
Then I asked them about a T-56 They Sell a New (not rebuilt) T-56 for $2200.00 Well after I get a flywheel, Slave Cylinder, ECT I would be substanisly over what I wanted to spend.

I have also looked a Tremic T-5 But the fact of the shifter location being 3" more forward and They don't give a Estimated H.P Rating Turns me away From a Tremic.

Well If I can't have a new 5 or 6 speed that will hold at least 400 H.P for around $2000.00 I will put a auto back in, so I started looking at 700R4's and TH-350 and TH-400 Well since this car is going to be a Pure Street car With ocasional Drag Use I still Want over Drive. Unless some one out there With 400 HP Fuel Injected TH-350 or TH-400 and 3.73's will give me their MPG and be around 16-17 MPG I will probally want a 700R4.

I Have looked at Pro-Built Automatics and seen The choices

700R4 Street/Strip Transmission $1495.00
"Limited" Street 700R4 $1610.00
Witch not sure which one I would want for my needs plus which converter would be best suited for my application.

The car when done will have:
383 Stroker (4 bolt main Block w/2pc Rear Seal)
.030 Probe Ind. Forged 383 Pistons designed for a 5.7" rod 10.3:1CR
Forged 3.75 stroke Crank
Forged 5.7" Rods
AFR 195cc Street Head With 1.530 O.D. AFR springs up to .600 lift
Comp Cams Magnum 5/16 Pushrods
Pro Magnum Roller Rocker arms 1.6
Comp Cams Hydraullic Roller cam Custom Ground to the Specs of the GMPP Hot Cam
Lift @.050 w/1.6 rockers:.525 Int .525 Exh
Duration @ .050 218 int 228 Exh
112 degree LSA
Comp Cams Retro Fit Hydraullic Rollers
Stud Girdles
Comp Cams True Roller Timing chain w/Block Protector and Thrust Button
Comp Cams 2pc Hevy Duty Timing chain cover
Fluidampner Street Dampner
HSR intake With 30lbs SVO injectors, 52mm TB, and
My own Custom Tuned Chip (thanks to Craig Moates,Ken & Bill, Grumpy, Rbob, Mangus,11orBust, Mike Davis, TRAXION and the REST of TGO DIY-Prom Board )
I think I listed everything When it is done I am Hope for around 400+hp which with these componets Should be on the + side of 400 slightly at the flywheel

any advice on the 5 or 6 speed or a TH-350 or TH-400 Welcome Please Post Sorry so long just wanted to put all the info possiable.

Manuel trans are very easy to overhaul. If you find a cheap used one you can rebuild and/or upgrade it very easily. That should be able to handle the power your looking at putting down plus youll get the 6 speed you want.

Problem is I have looked everywhere for a T-56 and one in a junkyard that they won't Guarentte If it works is $850.00 Non Refundable. Most of the other ones I see Hawks,Fbody Motorsports are $1400-1600 and are used. How hard is it to rebuild a T-56, and info on this. Plus my engine is a 2pc Rear Seal and I would need a Special Flywheel. It is probally $$$$$

Fbody Motorsports has a T-56 With Conversion Kit Used for $1800.00 Is it just me or does this seem kinda high for a used Tranny. Hell I wonder what I could sell my T-5 for With Everything. It just needs a new Input Shaft, which Halon Motorsports sells.
For a stock engine if would be ok to use my T-5 But 400 H.P the T-5 Just won't Hang.

If you've never rebuilt a manual trans before the T56 is not the place to start. It is the most complicated manual I've ever tackled. There are three endplay specs which need to be closely checked, one of which requires a tool you can't buy and have to have custom made to Tremec's specs. Other than those settings the actual wrenching is pretty straightforward, but if those specs are not within tolerances the bearings will burn up.

You should be able to get a complete T56 swap package for $2,000. You will need a $450 flywheel to make it work. Get a steel one though, the aluminum ones can cause idle problems.

The really good G-Force trans isn't streetable because it has dog and slider style synchros. It's really a race peice. The T56 is just about as strong, and a lot more street friendly.

BTW, you could build a WC T5 to take 400HP for around $575 in parts, plus anything else that's worn out. A T5 wouldn't be a bad first trans to rebuld either.

Well after talking to a few different people I am going to put a Pro Built AutoMatic 700R4 In. I also found the input shaft for the T-5 a halon motorsports so I am gonna have a T-5 with a bad input shaft for sale that includes everything, Clutch, flywheel, Bellhousing, shifter, Master cylinder, Slave Cylinder, ECT. The T-5 shifts Beautyfull Except I have to double clutch 4th or It won't engage. My best friend who owned this car before i baught and I, replaced all the syncros when he owned it and it still has to be doubled clutched to be able to hit 4th gear. I will probally be selling it on Ebay.
