700R4 shifting problem (fairly unique situation, I think)
About 5 years and 30,000 miles ago, I replaced my stock 700R4 tranny in my 89 Formula with a new one with a police package upgrade. This tranny has different shift points under WOT, and normally shifts at 5200 rpm out of first. About a month ago, I noticed that under WOT the tranny was shifting early, at 4500 rpm. All other shifting under lighter throttle was the same as before (and as stock). I was thinking that the TV cable may have stretched a bit, so I tried to adjust it. If I shorten it up, I can get the tranny to not shift until just past 5000 rpm, but then the 1st gear (and to a lesser extent the 2nd gear) shift is late and very hard under light throttle. So now I'm not sure that it was the TV cable to begin with, and I'm not sure what to look at next. I was thinking about putting a filter kit in it since it's due anyway, and hoping it would help by some fluke, but other than that I'm out of ideas.
