Mechanic tellin stories...

I had my T-5 replaced with a new clutch pressure plate and throw-out bearing. The thing warms up and starts twittering all FKNG over again. I take it back, and it's now been a week and the car is in the same spot. He says the part is gonna get warranteed, but they are gonna say I was riding the clutch.

WTF?!

I haven't put 300 miles on the car and I break the throw-out bearing?! By that rate I should have had to replace it on my Spec-V about 30 times (~10k miles). And if I'm riding the clutch wouldn't the CLUTCH start slipping?

I told him that it acts weird in 5th gear. It acts like I was rough balancing the clutch/throttle action , but this is after it has been in gear for a while. He says it is because I am going to slow (40-45mph). It's not bogging, and I've never heard of this before. Is this guy just playing me or what?

Yeah, probably. But the throwout bearing isn't meant to be under constant load either. So his logic is grey-realm.

As far as a 300 mile throwout bearing, I'd say he'll be warrantying it if they don't. That'd be my demand. Did he inspect and grease the bearing retainer?

I kind of doubt the trans. More like drivability 101 and programming related because a T5 doesn't "change" in 10 minutes. But that's a w.a.g. from afar.

So I he might have picked up a funky replacement trans... hhmph.

$800 for very little in resuts. I guess I can't really reccomend this guy to anyone.

Is 45-45 mph toolow for 5th gear?

Thanks,
Jason

I don't think I have 3.73. I think I have 3.23. So I should be in 4th?

Like JMD said its a grey area.

Little story about a customer that had a silimilar complaint/problem. I replaced the clutch no charge then went on a test drive with him driving. He said it felt nice like the first one. I kept an eye on his feet the whole time, sure enough lefty had his foot riding the clutch the whole test drive. Wonder why the T.O bearing burnt up?

Not saying you did anything wrong, Ive had one explode in my own truck 6 miles after install. Its just nice to know all the facts before a logical explanation can be made.

FWIW, I've got a '84 T/A with stock rear end (3.23, I believe) and T5.... I usually don't run it in 5th gear < 50mph if I expect to have any sort of acceleration w/o lugging or pinging....

I would hope the guy would examine me like that. He would see that I don't ride the clutch. I drive stick everyday. I know better than to keep my foot on the clutch.
