differnce between 700r4 out of van and my iroc 700r4 ?

hey guys as you all know i blew up the tranny in my 86 iroc after about half a tank of gas through it... bu ti found a 700r4 out of a van that was hooked to a 350 tbi engine all its life so the vans is an 80s its only got 70,000 mile son the tranny and comes with a 30 day warentee for 150$ i cant go wrong the guy is cutting me a deal because he knows how bad i need the tranny to get to school in a week when it starts up.... any way being this tranny came out of a utility van is it going to shift differently then the one out of my iroc did.... like realy softly cause its not performanc eintended fromt he factory? or should they be the same... also i have herd i can put soemthing that comes in a corvette 700r4 in my 700r4 and it will make the shifts alot more firm also.. what is it i can get and put in my tranny before i through it in my car that will give me decently firm sports car like shifts. (corvette servo???)

also along witht he things i can put in this tranny i just want to put things in that i can easily put in from just taking the tranny pan off and doing it there i dont want to take the whole tranny apart

The van tranny won't have the torque arm mount provision. Switch the tailshaft housings.

The shift points and the like will probably be different. You can change the govenor without taking the tranny apart. The Vette servo same thing. Relief valve remove pan only.

Also swap the speedo gears out to since you have the tailshaft off.

The governer is a round housing DSR, right infront of the tailshaft you need to pry it off. Inside you will find this

You will find a gear like in this pic when you remove both tailshafts. Count the teeth and note the color. If they match up then leave the one on the new used transmission alone if not pull the clips and swap them.

When you remove the tailshaft you will need to remove the speedo sleve/housing. Thats fairly simple to see since its either got a plugin going to it or a wire connection.

Inside you will find a gear like this.

You will probably have to swap all these items to keep an accurate speed reading.

make sure that the van is not something like an 83. I think the earlier years had a one piece case/tail housing. I got a 700r4 for my car from a friend for free out of his 83 z28, but the tail housing was one piece with the trans case and didn't have a torque arm mount. I couldn't take it off and put another one on.

That was a 200c 3 speed then. All other GM automatic transmissions have a removable tail shaft.
