vehicle speed sensor (help)

i have a 1988 trans am gta 305.... when i got the car the speed sensor wasnt reading the speed of the car. So i changed the sensor it self and the gear also, and its still not working..... What eles could be done so i know how fast im going

You can look at your tach. Your speed is directly proportional to the engine rpm and gear your in.

A better suggestion would be to check the wiring thou. Do you have a check engine light or is the speedo just not working?

yeah the check engine light is on.... so what should i do next...

Pull the code using the paperclip method. If its a vss code you have a problem in the wiring between the buffer box and the sensor. If its not a vss code your problem is between the buffer box and the speedo with the speedo being a possible culprit.

so if my VSS buffer box isnt working right, my speedo wont show me the speed of my car.... so how do i check it, and how do i replace it if its bad... (sorry... im new to the third gen cars)
