v6 tranny same as my v8 t-5?

assuming my transmission is shot, and you guys never helped me out with that one, i was told the v6 5 speed is the same as my borg warner t-5, but just a different bellhousing. is this true? the guy said he had a couple extra v6 5 speeds laying around and i could get one of those. good idea?

Not the same.

Bad idea.

The guy has worthless junk, and he wants your money, and once the deal is done, it's now your problem not his. When it doesn't work, he'll tell you "Well it's a good trans, there's nothing wrong with it, not my problem it's the wrong one for your car" and then it'll be your turn to try to unload some worthless junk onto somebody.

They are different in that the V6 model has a 14 spline input shaft compared to the 26 spline V8 model, and they both have different gear ratio's. But other than that, they are pretty much the same transmission built with the same parts and both can handle the same ammount of power (which is not a lot). To use a V6 T5 you need a V8 T5 bellhousing and a special 14 spline 10.5" clutch. Some guys have even used S10 clutches. You can try a search for 'V6* T5*' to find more information.
