Did cruise control come with 85-92 manual camaros

I have sort of a delema. I have an 88' 305 TPI motor w/ an 89' engine harness and 89'cruise control harness. Im insalling an 85'z28 t-5 in the 88' TPI and was wondering if its possible to install the 89 cruise control on the 85' T-5. Will the 89' engine harness be compatable with the 85' t-5. Did manual trannys come with cruise control.

You could get cruise on the 5-speed trannys. My '87 IROC has cruise, although non-functional (one of these days I'll take the time to figure out why). I am not sure about the compatability of an 89 harness to an 85 T-5, but I'm sure it can be done.

By the way, if anybody feels like posting any hints to troubleshoot a non-working cruise control, I might get started on the project soon! Thanks!

Grant wheel
Otherwise stock, & good for a 14.68 at DeSoto Dragstrip
More to come soon...

Mine has it (83 Z28 HO 5-spd.), works fine.

Can't answer the model-year compatibility question though. Sorry.

thanks guys i just have one more question. Since i have a 92' camaro, in the RPM odometer is a shift light(which light up to upshift w/ manual equiped vehicles)since my car came equiped with the v-6 700r4 does the engine harness from an 89' 305 TPI which had a t-5 come equipped with sensor to make the shift like operational. Does it matter if the t-5 is from 85'.

i think you will need a different printed circuit in the back of the dash cluster and a bulb and socket. you will also need a different EPROM chip, you can't use the auto chip in a manual application.

shift kit, manual TC switch, manual fan switch, flowmaster exhaust with edelbrock TES headers& hollow cat, gutted MAF.

-No you can't use that cruise control harness as is. You need to convert your tranny to an electric speedo output, your 85 tranny will have a cable output. You'll need to do this one way or another anyway to make it work with your 92 dash.
-As to the 'shift' light, you shouldn't need to actually swap anything, you should just need to put a bulb/holder in the hole in the appropriate hole. My car is an A4, but IIRC when i had it out it looked like all the wiring for the shift bulb is already in the printed circuit. This light is controlled by the ECM, and uses the same driver as the TCC solenoid for A4 cars.
-As someone pointed out, you really should get a chip for a manual tranny car. If you don't one thing is for sure, the shift light will work really funny as it will light whenever the ECM commands for TCC lock-up.

Why bother trying to get the shift light to work? If you drive it hard at the least, the light will stay on...especially annoying at night. You will probably burn it out in no time. I kinda miss mine, but I'm not in a rush to replace the bulb. Just my .02
