Why don't you want the lock up? Much better on gas, easy to wire up, and unless you have a 3:73 or lower gear (according to CC mag, not my own analogy) it will raise the tranny temps to a very high level while cruising in OD, and could/may cause premature failure of the tranny.

I just realized you stated your '88' 700R4 was a 27 spline. If it really is an '88' it will be a '30' spline unit. the 30 spline input shaft is a little stronger and a better choice.

No problem, I did the same thing the first time I tore apart my 700R4. But I knew mine was an 87 tranny, so it really threw me off.

Re: Torque Converter
I know this thread is old as hell but this really needs to be put in a sticky with big bold letters at the top of the page because I almost got divorced over this. I counted my stator shaft and almost lost my mind because I got this tranny from a long time friend and couldnt belive it. I recounted the input shaft and she probably wont talk to me for a week and I feel stupid as hell now.

Make the call or go visit and say "You were right, I was wrong, I'm sorry." Yes you'll never hear the end of it but you'll still have a friend
