the speed sensor always leaked a little but now it looks like it's wet up by the shifter and now it leaks more than before. My question is what is involved in fixing this?

 

Oh yeah. I forgot to add that I already did a lot of searching and came up empty. Just thought I'd add that before someone replied with

look by the shifter and see if the gasket underneath the shift is gone. i dont think it would leak from there unless the shifter plate was bent or the tranny was way over full.

 

I don't recall there being a gasket there, even with a stock shifter; only some silicone. Like everything else about a T-5.

I also don't ever recall seeing one leak from there. There's really no appreciable amount of fluid that ever gets up there.

If you have fluid showing up at the rear of the trans, it's probably coming from the speedo gear thing or VSS, or from the rear seal. If it's coming out the rear seal, it will get slung around quite a bit by the drive shaft, and will appear in starnge improbable places.

 

The rear seal is dry, along with the driveshaft. I might have put a little too much fluid in due to the angle of the car on the jack stands when I changed the fluid (but it couldn't have been that much). I did switch to a synthetic fluid which I heard can leak more. The leak is definatly coming from above the speed sensor. It's really wet directly above the speed sensor all the way up to the shifter, this definatly seem to be where it is coming from. I plan on switching the stocker for a hurst shifter soon, hopefully that will fix it. So there is no gasket? just silicone.


How do I go about fixing this leak? The speed sensor thingy has been leaking for quite some time but it wasn't that bad so I never fixed it. Maybe now it's time to fix it.

 

he is right it is only silicone around the shifter make sure you have like rtv or something to seal up the shifter when you put it on, about the sensor i dont know but it seems to me like you can take it off and find out if there is a gasket behind it or maybe it just needs tightening down. when i glaced at mine it looked like it was held in to place the way a distributor is with this side plate that bolt down, not to sure.

 

But if I take the sensor off wont all the fluid come out?
