do they still make this?
i need the thing that stick out of the trans of my T-5, camaro trans, 1987 is the year, that would drive the speedometer cable.
my local dealer said they "discontinued" it.
could anybody give me a part number for gmpartsdirect or anything? i really don't want to be rootin' around under a car in the middle of a junkyard that the grounds caked in greese.
whats the proper name for it anyway?

Here's the part you need. Its name is "speedo gear sleeve".
The dealer has it. It's quite common.
If you have a blue or purple gear on your mainshaft, it has 7 teeth. It's the right one for the 3-series gears. It may be the wrong one for 3.08 or lower number gears; I don't know for sure, because I've never had to mess around with a car with those in it.

so i get that and thats it? or do i need to put the little gear on the end of my electric one now onto that? because that looks like it has no gear to drive it.
see, my truck has a mechanical speedo. the trans is set up for electric. but instead of switch over to electric speedo(change the whole cluster) i bought a part that would still give the signal to the computer on how fast the cars going, but would also drive the speedo cable. just to clear things up a bit.

I have no clue what you're talking about. Either a vehicle has a cable, or it has an electronic VSS. Vehicles that have cable speedos but also computers, and so need to know the vehicle speed, use a little transducer that's mounted on the back of the instrument cluster.
So I don't know what you bought; but it doesn't sound like anything you need. You should probably send it back.
You need the piece in that pic, and a speedo gear, which will look somewhat like this.

That sleeve won't accept the gear from your VSS. You need a new gear also.
Email me your tyre size, differential rear gear ratio, the colour of the gear inside the transmission, and I'll get ya hooked up with the right parts.

I don't know about ripping it apart, but on my T-5, the speedo stuff is held in with a clip that had one bolt.

Your's may look like this but with the cable attachment at the end instead of that electrical connector.

i'll find out the ratio. but just to clear things up, you mean the rear right? or the ratio between the gear in the trans and the gear on the VSS?
kind of a stupid question but i want to get the right one.
ok, don't quote me on this, i'm cheaking on it to make sure its right, but i have a 2:41 rear. just the code doesn't toally match the one on s-series.org and i'm cheaking on it. does that give me anything?
