'87 LB9 / MM5 --High pitch 'chirp'; goes away when the clutch pedal is depressed

My Formula has the 5-speed and an annoying chirp that sounds like the throwout bearing -- a high pitched metallic 'chirp' that sounds like crickets.

Not loud, but it is there. It goes away when you step on the clutch pedal even just enough to start engagement.

The procedure in the shop manual has you taking out most of the driveline to replace the throwout-- is there something else it might be before I start taking it apart?

The car is stock as a nail; clutch was replaced about 5000 miles ago after a theft. Otherwise, it runs perfect.

Any help is appreciated!

This may not be the throwout bearing. I have had the same problem and I read somewhere on here (in a tech article I think) that this is a frequency vibration that is easily cured by removing the shift fork rubber boot and using a good quality high temp. grease (like wheelbearing grease) on the pivot ball. It worked for me. Like I said before I think there is a tech article that goes in to greater detail.
