quiet, high-pitched metalic niose from 9-bolt

I just swaped a posi, 2.77 9-bolt rear into my car to replace my crappy 10-bolt with a worn pinion bearing. well when driving I can hear a very high-pitched metalic whriling noise coming from my rear, but its not very loud. Is this normal for 9-bolts? I know the differential design is different than the 10-bolt, I just hope that I didn't swap out one problem for another

also a side note, will a series 3 carrier like an eaton posi fit in the 9-bolt housing?

9 bolt

Did you change out the gear oil? If I swapped my rear end, which i'm getting ready to do, I would change the gear oil, and put in a new cover seal. That way I could make sure there weren't any visable problems.

Does the noise change when you apply the brake?

Not surprised really. Those brakes suck and hang up a lot causing squeels etc. the only thing I ever found to work was new bushings lubed with dielectric grease and that anti squeel silicone "brake quiet" stuff gobbed all over the backside of both pads but even then if you have a sticky caliper its gonna squeel. I am assuming that the pads are okay otherwise check that first. Good luck.

You will be very happy with them except... its a fairly tricky thing to add LS1 brakes to the 9 bolt rears as I have found out first hand. You will be much easier off using the 89 and newer PBR 12 inch set up. They work just as well although they don't look as cool but best of all its a direct bolt on. Here is a thread that may help you out
