wrong flywheel??HELLP

ok i did just see the other one just like this post but please post a reply. i just bought a manual setup form a guy and well 2 weeks later i'm putting the fly wheel on which would be today. but i got 3 fly wheels in the deal 2 are the same. Thier bigger then my bell housing or just roungly fit in the bell housing but not enought to be the right ones. i also got on thats a lil smaller and the bolt hole patter is smaller then what i got on my crank shaft. i'm also assuming the probalme is because the guy before me put a 350 in the car.but is it possible he could put a 400 crank in. and thats why the bigger flywheels would bolt up but don't. or am i just f'd. but i also have incountered every problame while doing this swap. so noting is really extramly bad news

from what I gather, you have two 168 tooth flywheels and one 153 tooth flywheels that fits an 86+ engine. An 85-older engine will have a larger bolt pattern than 86+

None of your flywheels will work with what you've got. All you need is a flywheel ordered for a 1984 Camaro 305 application. That is what's proper for an 85-older 350.

If you have a flywheel with a smaller bolt pattern than the crank in your 350, then I don't think it's an 86 350.

If you got no fly wheel on its easy to tell if its pre 86 or if its post 86 one has a one peice rear main seal the other is a two peice rear main. Just look at it. If it has a bunch of bolts around the outside of the crank where the flywheel bolts on its 86 and on. If not its pre 86. It looks like a big ring that comes off around the crank. Then you can deside which flywheel you need. I have one of both just so I can swap in older engines.

just because the carb is off of a 86 doesnt mean the engine is out of an 86 ......people swap things out all the time ......have you ran the numbers on the block to see what engine you have and make sure its not a 305 ???

86 has TPI....except on the DOOKIE models of the Z28...oh yeah...like mine...we had the quadrajunk....oh yeah...and there were only 50 cars made with a 350 that year...all Iroc's...I would believe quite strongly that those cars probably never saw a showroom.....

i was just going by what my 84 z28 came with

it was all original when i bought it and then we blew the engine so in went the 350 also check out https://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/tech/techdb.shtml
it has it listed there also that the 84 z28 HO was a carb not a tbi.....

you could find a bell housing from a older chevy that will fit around your fly wheel ... if you go back far enough you can find some that are cast iron ( a little heavy but strong ) ... although there may be clearance issuses ... then you can run a 12 in clutch disc if the fly wheel will accept it ... good luck ... tao

This is easy. It doesn't matter if it's a 305 or a 350. It matters if it is an 85-down engine, or an 86-up engine. If the rear of the crank is perfectly round with a one-piece seal, then it's 86-up. IF the rear of the crank is curiously shaped, with a couple corners cut out, it's an 85-down engine.

85-down

86-up

If it's 85-down, order a flywheel for an 84 Z28 5spd.

If it's 86-up, order a flywheel for an 88 Z28 V8 5spd.
