strange clicking noise

I have had a clicking noise under my car for a while now, and I cannot figute out what is doing it. It is almost more like a rattle. it seems to tick when I go over a bump or let go of the brakes. But when I press lightly on the brakes, the rattle goes away, and then back again once I let off the brakes. It is also is consistant with the speed of the car. it will tick repedatively as the car moves. I looked at all the brake system, emergency cables, exhaust, and I have found nothing. My only conclusion is the ticking is comming fron the trans(700R4). and I wonder if that is why the trans slips and I loose the gear all together sometimes.
The ticking is getting worse so if anyone has some input, I would apriciate it.
Thanks

Ive cant really think of any trans problems that would go away when you hit the brakes. Although your trans does seem to be on its way out. Does the noise seem worse when you turn one way or the other?

it does not matter if I am turning or going straight. I was listening to it this morning and it sounds like a chirp from a mechanical peice of the car. Metal hitting metal. That is why I thought it was maybe part of thr trans.

Put the axle tubes up on jack stands, run the car, see if you can find it.
