The 3-speed auto (V8 4-speed man) was exclusive to '82.

so that thing in my old car was a hackjob thats what I thought I mean off the line in that thing was crap I hit the gas and it was a mediocre pull off and then averything droped out
and once I was comming around a corner and a Dodge ram van pulled out after I passed and I had a good 5 cars on him then all the sudden hes beside me so I nail it and pedal all the way down and there aint no walking away to it he left me like I was standing still at that moment I decided I want a V8

and now I have a 305 V8 with a 700R4 4 speeds and overdrive now I want a stock TPI 350 I am never satisfied and dont forget "T" tops and a 91 or 92 good lord Im hard to satisfy

yeah my 305 kinda drops out on me when I hit 3rd it seems like its shifting to early cause if I manually shift it works alot better

The last year for the 3-speed auto "from the factory" for a V6 car was 1983.

82 - V8 & V6 got the "metric" TH200C
83- V8 got the "new" TH700R4, V6 and I4 still had TH200C
84- Everyone gets the TH700R4, including the I-4's
85- Last year for the inline 4 cyl

So yeah, someone definately did something weird to your '89. The trans might've blown and they bought a junkyard trans from an 82-83 car?

Yeah could be but most likely its just some random 3 speed out of some random chevy I think the guy who had the car before me was a queer litterally that really has nothing to do with the car I really just dont like them and on top of that he didnt have a clue about cars

Should try to keep your opinions on those matters to yourself. Anyways, is it possible that one of the gears in your old trans was busted?

that or the guy switched it to a th350 lots of people do it when the 700r4 goes out because of cost and availability
