700R4 Front Pump R&R
I did a search on this and couldn't find my answer, so here goes.
Tranny went out, I've been told its probably the pump.
My car needs a new engine anyhow so I pulled the motor and while I'm in there, I take out the converter and remove all the pump bolts for a look.
I can't get the pump to budge!
I don't want to bust anything by beating on it with a hammer.
What should I do to remove this thing?
Thanks

You can get a special tool to remove the front pump... The largest section of splines closest to the pump is part of the pump base so that will come out with the pump (stator shaft, iirc). You can get creative and pull it with a gear puller and a c-clamp, but you're better off just getting the tool.

OK Thanks
Someone on another thread said something about renting one of those tools, I'll have to see if I can locate one.
Something else... There's a little star shaped thing pressed into the ID of the front shaft, I assume that I'll want to avoid damaging that. Should I try to remove that? Or should I rig something up to protect it?
If I can't find a tool for rent, do I just center the puller on the longest (center) shaft and press there and pull on the outer shaft?

www.700raptor.com sells pump pullers. I hope this helps. Maybe you can stop by a local tranny shop and ask if they could just pull it out for you.

I think I'll clamp a 2x4 on each side of the shaft with some holes drilled into them and get some threaded rod that's long enough to reach my harmonic balancer puller, and give that a try tonight.
Just seeing a pic of the puller is helpful, it tells me that there's prabably not a lot of force needed to take it off.
