trying to adjust tv cable: no clicks
i'll get a pic later
basically i press the D shaped tab down, and make sure that the plastic thing on the cable moves, and it does, so i move it all the way to the housing, towards the firewall.
then i move the throttle linkage (connected to carb and stuff) but the little plastic thing stays where it is and doesn't click or come out
something wrong? (i'm assuming that the plastic thing comes out with the mechanism inside, according to this page.)

This is probably a dumb question to ask, but since it has been known to happen in the past. After you pull the cable towards the firewall, are you releasing that tab or do you continue to have it pushed in when you move the throttle linkage.
Just a thought.

heh, i thought of both and tried both because the plastic thing didn't move..however, if i press the D while moving throttle linkage (not the way to do it) the plastic thing moves with the internal mechanism. If i do it with the D tab released, it stays in position.
also, when the plastic thing is all the way to the housing, there is slack (visually it doesn't show, but if i press down on the cable, it moves a bit)

Your cable could be stretched, you could have the wrong cable or the wrong bracket for your setup.

if the cable has stretched, how do i fix it?
also, the cable moves independent of the plastic thing (i can pull the cable out while the plunger stays put)
i would doubt about the wrong setup as everything is stock

yeah so my caprice is like this too now..it won't do the clicking. And i noticed shifts were much different on it..ex. usually it'll shift at 30-40 km/h (no tach), and be quite smooth, but now it would shift at 40, harder. also, about 30% throttle results in a shift from 3rd to 1st, usually no shift or just a shift to 2nd. (this was with the plastic thing at the housing)
i attempted to get it back to its original position (the D tab is quite hard to push), and it was pretty much back to normal.
now: if i moved the plastic thing in the camaro to an approx position (based on other drivers positions) would this be a better option than leaving it alone?
