Shifted from OD to R at 55mph

I hope that this is the correct forum for this, feel free to move it if it isnt mods.

It shut down my car (left everything on, but turned the engine off), it freaked the crap out of me because I am used to driving in Drive, not Overdrive, but I decided that gas consumption sucked just this one day and decided to cruise at OD, then wanted to shift it into neutral b/c my brakes are about gone (replacing pads on Thursday)

And with my "great" habit of holding down the shifter button while shifting through the gears (dont even know how i got this habit) it shifted it from OD to R instead of D to N lol.

Anyways, after I got to a rolling stop I was able to start the car up again (after a couple pounds of the pedal to the floor on startup) and got it ridden home easily. It felt a bit less torquey (if that's even a word lol) on the rest of the drive though, but perhaps that's because I was quiet tense from the mishap?

Anyways, thanks for reading up on my recent stupidity lol

i did that on a previous thirdgen i had.

went from overdrive to R at around 45 and smoked the tires for a few quick seconds and put it back in od. the tranny and car was fine after that. i just plum forgot what gear i was in and my indicator light was broken and at night.

I had a similar thing happen in my s-10 when I was having trouble with it. On my way home one day it was giving me fits and the engine couldnt build enough vacuum to operate the brake booster. I wasnt about to get it towed so I just continued driving and when I wanted to stop. Id shift into neutral, rev the motor, and slam the throttle shut to generate vacuum. Worked fine untill someone pulled out in front of me when I was doing about 60 and coasting to a red light up ahead. Swerved to avoid them and since it has a column shifter, I moved that all the way into park by accident when I turned the wheel. Nothing like hearing the parking pawl trying to engage the internal reaction gear/support or whatever that thing is called while its still turning...

the d with the circle around it is Overdrive (4th gear). the D right below that is Drive (3rd gear). then you have of course 2 (2nd gear) and 1 (1st gear). what this means, is if you put it in 2nd, for instance, the tranny would still start in 1st, but would shift NO HIGHER than 2nd gear. hope this clears it up...

Another reason why I got an aftermarket shifter, no accidental shifts into reverse

well, i didnt take it offensively so it's all good. thanks for sticking up for me though heh.

So far today, I havent had any problems with the car, so I'm just assuming it'll be fine. But I am still more concious about shifting around so much heh.
