th350 speedo gears

My car was originally a 2.8L 5 speed but it now has a th350 and a 355. When i bought the car the speedo didn't work at all, at the time my friend knew much more than me about cars so he went under and tried to fix it. A short piece of speedometer cable was kinda busted and with it he took out this lil thing with a tube connected to it. Now the speedo meter spins around and around the gauge ( a not original to the car dual 85 mph and kph berly cluster). What part do i need to get to fix this? Im thinking that the contraption must have been a reducing gearbox. Can somebody help me out on where to get this thing?

If the needle spins all the way around, you need a new speedometer head.
