leaky th350
it's leaked out most or all of the fluid, that's why i haven't driven it in about a month. it's coming for one or all of these places:
1. cooling lines
2. detent cable hookup
3. dipstick
For the cooling lines, we didn't put any o-rings in when we hooked the cooling lines up, so i figured that's probably the problem.
For the detent cable, i used a long screw with a bunch of washers to put it in, so i think it might not be tightened up enough(?) but i have the screw from my old 700 which looks like it should work(shorter too).
for the dipstick, it was tight when i slid it in (with the o-ring), but i couldn't bolt it down to anything, not enough room to work around in to bend the bracket, but my engine oil dipstick is the same way and it has never leaked from there.
This is what i'm thinking it could be and the weather is finally cooling down enough so i won't die from heat exposure outside. If anyone else has any recomendations, i'll take them.

throw that o ringed dipstick away. i had one of those there junk ,the o ring ripped everytime i put it in .get a dipstick with a rubber coller on the end,and make sure you bolt it to the block or it will leak.

I hear that. To be honest, the only reason I am sure that is your problem, is because it just happened to me like 2 months ago. Me and the general were getting the car going, just installed the kickdown, fired it up, and fluid was everywhere. Iwas like, "damn, this is bull****!" After thinking for a few minutes I grabbed that little grommet, stuck it in, and no more problems. Kinda funny when it is all said and done.

yeah, mine leaked like that too...only it took about 2 weeks to do it that bad. So you're basically sayin i need to take of the detent cable, put a grommet in teh hole and then reattach the detent cable right? I'll try that first and see if and how much it leaks after that.

well, i put o-rings in the fittings for the trans cooler lines, checked the detent cable, there is a rubber seal around the base of it, couldn't get the dipstick tube out so i put a bead of silicone around the base. drove it around, looked good...checked it a few hours later and the fluid still leaked out only this time it was on the other side of the tranny. can overtorqued trans pan bolts cause it to leak. i'm thinking that when i hooked up the linkage i over torqued the 2 bolts...and now that i think about i never checked all of the pan bolts when i got the trans.
Overtorqued bolts can definately cause a leak. What kind of gasket did you use, and did you use any sealer? A lot of people say not to use a sealer with cork, but i always do. Never had one leak either. IF it is a rubber one, dont use any sealer.

not sure about the type of gasket...i bought it rebuilt from a guy and it already had the pan and gasket on there...i guess if nothing else i can buy a new gasket, take the pan off and retorque all of the bolts.

Mine leaks throught the dipstick. It has an o ring but I guess its easy to damage that o ring. I tried silicone but it just comes off after a few days. Currently I put a pan under the car in the garage and every time I drive it pour the fluid back in. Its not a lot and its not a daily driver, but I should fix it
