I can't tell too much about yours.

But I can tell you, I shredded about 3 or 4 of them in my 83, while it had the OE L69 in it. The casualty rate went up FAST after I put a 400 in it in about 87 or 88. I think the longest lived one was about 4 months, over a period of about 12 years. Unitl.....

Out of the clear blue, I made the most startling discovery! One day, for no particular reason, I accidentally found out ( can't imagine how it happened ) that it's actually possible, for me to lift my right foot off the floor while shifting gears!

{gasp}

I had no idea that could work, after all those years before I got this car of driving 4-speeds.

After that revelation, the next one I put behind the 400, lasted for about 35,000 miles of that motor, and then another 25,000 behind another 305 that's in the car now. And most amazing of all, it was still working when I took it out.

So, I can draw 2 conclusions from this lesson:

1. One can trash it mercilessly with a 305 at will; and
2. One can make it last behind some real power, if one drives it accordingly.

Again, I can't comment about yours; but that's how it was with mine. But somehow I doubt yours is much different from the piles of smoking debris I accumulated.

Excellent...my little 305 car is more of a canyon carver than a drag racer. The WC T5 should last a long, long time.

Mine is behind a 400+ HP 383 SuperRam setup and working fine so far (knock on wood!).

Of course I always use the clutch, don't do real heavy sustained burnouts, and lift the accel when I am driving spiritedly while shifting......

YMMV, of course!

My T-5 isn't stock, but so far it's held up well. And that's behind a 408 that pushes 490 TQ and 390 HP at the fly.

But I still don't speed shift, because doing that has the potential to kill any manual gearbox.

Just like anything else, if you treat it right it'll last.

A friend of mine had his WC T5 live behind his 502 that he has in his 84 Z.
the 2 things that saved the tranny were the clutch and tires. One or the either would burn up, therefore keeping the tranny alive.
