I use one. No complaints or supposed vibrations I was told I would feel. It is $24 can be bought at any pep boys or autozone and will last forever.

Is there really a need for a poly trans mount?? Just wondering about the added noise transfer through the mount, as well as vibration

I will say it again. The stock rubber ones can fail minutes after you install one. The poly ones will not and will last forever. You will not notice a difference in vibration. That is unless you are super senstive and can filter tiny oscillations from the trans mount that aren't already blended into the billions of other rattles and squeeks these cars have. It is a $24 part. There is not much risk here.

Installed one last night along with the torque arm bushing and it looks nice a seems to function great. The only issue was the slot in the cross member was not large enough to allow the bolt supplied to fit thru. Had to open it up a little with a POWER tool , always a fun thing to do.
Easy Job.

another from me

now, if you dont like vibrations, dont think about poly engine mounts. my whole car shakes now, ive developed 2 new rattles that i can hear, but that might be as a result of the new suspension too

Thanks

BTW- is there any special way to install this mount since it looks nothing like the original that goes on the car? I believe i purchased it already once before and it looked completely off from the factory piece...so i returned it The ES piece has a metal plate on the bottom, the rectangular poly part in the middle with 3 screw holes in it, and then it comes with a seperate metal piece....as well as two(i think) seperate big bolts/screws....how does/can it work in place of the original factory pos piece?

the separate metal peice is a preload plate. it goes between the tranny and mount. bolt the mount to the tranny using the original hard ware that held the old mount on. then lower the tranny on the crossmember and take one of the supplied bolts and put it through the crossmember and thread it into the middle hole on the mount. the reason it has three holes is because it is designed for pretty much all gm cars. if your mount were to use two bolts you would use the two outside holes in the mount and the two bolts supplied. hope this helps.

Ahhhh.....so pretty much, you're installing this thing upside-down and using the one bolt to screw through the crossmember into the middle hole in the poly part of the mount.....do i have that right?

*EDIT* And, i dont use the pre-load plate, correct?

Try to use the pre-load plate if you can. It is not that bad to install it.

So let me get this straight....if you are under the car, the poly mount mounts upside-down...meaning the poly part touches that piece of metal between the ground and the mount....thats where the bolt goes through into the middle of the mount....then you mount the pre-load plate between the bottom portion of the mount(the other plate already attached to it) and that pre-load plate goes and attaches to the trans....so now you have two plates touching each other? Is that right? Illustration:

_______ <----bottom of trans

_____ <---- pre-load plate
_____
[---] <----poly mount w/screw in middle
|

____ <---- bottom piece of metal between ground and mount that bolt goes into

while youre at it, get a poly torque arm mount. very big difference. my car has a nasty habbit of chewing up torque arm mounts. i went through 3 rubber ones and then i got a poly one for my b-day. never bothered me again

mine did not go in the middle hole it lined up on the one of the outside holes. Also, the preload and mount plates are slotted so you can line it up perfectly then torque it down.

Ok nice. One more question....the kit comes with two bolts and a bunch of washers....if i have to use the two bolts to mount the pre-load plate to the trans and then to the mount, where am i going to get a 3rd bolt for the middle to screw into the crossmember/mount on the bottom? or do i NOT use those two bolts to mount the plate to the trans and the mount...in that case, where do i get the two bolts for to actually mount the mount itself? Sorry if i'm making this more confusing that it has to be...i just want to be clear in how to install this thing. Thanks.

I used the 2 bolts from the original mount again and used 1 new bolt for the crossmember.

It would work that way very well. Last thing...the new poly mount installs with the rounded edge of the poly part facing towards the back of the car, correct?

yup ...of course I put it in backwards the first time but I caught it before I let it down. I think it will block the pan bolts a little.

As was previously mentioned, you might have to make the slot in the crossmember wider to accomodate the bolt that comes with the mount.
I used a bolt that fit into the slot and it was just a tad to skinny for the mount and ended up stripping the mount. This time I pulled off the crossmember and made the slot a little wider and used the bolt that came with the mount.

I also tore up one of the rubber replacement mounts in a matter of seconds. Installed it, drove down the street and got on it and it tore right in half.

Thanks for the reminder. The rubber mounts are crap, which is why i went with the poly this time....its been only 3 weeks since i installed a new rubber one and its shot again. Aggravating to say the least. Making the slot wider shouldnt be too hard...i imagine a drill with the appropriate bit would do the trick...

ES Poly Mount is INSTALLED!!! And a success....really wasnt hard at all...I did have to drill a bit at the middle hole in the crossmember to accomodate the wider bolt. Other than that, i installed everything as i think it should be....first the single plate to the trans, which meets the mount, both of them get bolted together, and then the mount with the round part facing back to the rear of the car, and the screw in the middle. One question on vibration....the only noticable vibration i have is when i'm really accellerating at higher rpms....is that when you guys notice it too? Other than that, its smooth.

Now that this is done, i can finally put the car on EBay....sad to see it go, but its time to upgrade.
