Was my car stick at one time?
I have a '87 GTA and in the tech articles it says that they were only offered in a 305 with stick. Another thing is, I have the upshift light that comes on sometimes, above my gas gauge.
Anyone know?

Look at your firewall, directly below the master cylinder. If it was a 5-speed at one time, there will be a hole array (one large hole, 2 3/8" holes) for the clutch master cyl.
The "upshift" light in a stick car, is the same wiring and driver in the ECM, as the TCC in an auto car. So, if the bulb is equipped in an auto car, it will come on whenever the clutch locks up.
Someone may have swapped the dash, or just put a bulb in the "upshift" cavity even though one isn't supposed to be there in an auto car.
I have no clue whether they offered that car with an auto trans. However, I would find it EXTREMELY hard to believe that the GTA, which is essentially the "luxo barge" version of these cars, would have ever come with a stick only. That doesn't pass the smell test.

I've heard about that as well. The only 305 GTA I've seen had the T5 (it's an Auto now since we swapped tranny's). Every other GTA I've seen was the 350/Auto.

the 350 tpi was standard. you could down grade to a 305 tpi if you wanted to save like 100.00 then you could have got a t-5 if you wanted. and I have seen many many 305 gta's one of my buddies had a 88 gta 305 tpi auto (nothing rare) had the pbr rear disc and vats all availiable in 88 Joined: Jul 2000

RPO MD8 is for the 700R4. It will be there if your car came with the auto.
Of course stickers can be changed, the VIN is at the top of the sticker to make sure that's original too.
