what auto tranny will fit my 92 V6
i might need a new one just wondering from what cars can i get one.
would a tranny out of a third gen camaro with a 305 work in mine? not sure of the year, he said late 80s, but it would be free since he doesn't use the car....

There are other V6 GM engines that received the 700R4 but they use a SBC bellhousing. They won't fit your v6 3rd gen.
The 3rd gen also has the torque arm mount. Check the classifieds or maybe put a tranny wanted in there.
RBob.
I think you could also look for a 2.8 S10 with an auto overdrive. You would have to put your tailshaft on, so as to retain the torque arm mount, but that is like 5 minutes worth of work. Any rear drive 60* V6 vehicle (firebird, camaro, s10, s15) should work.
found a guy on the board selling one for $200 with 100 K on it... says its worked fine he just ran into a guard rail so hes parting the car. its from a 92 v6 so it would just bolt up, a rebuild would cost more like 1000-1500 right?

Well, if you were anywhere near here, it would help you. Speedway Auto Salvage, Madison IL. Used trans run 125-150 with a 30 day warranty. There is a place next door called B auto parts that has a 6 month warranty, and a little more expensive. The point I am making is though, you can get one from a junkyard for the same or less money, and get a warranty of some kind with it. A stock rebuild should cost no more than 350 dollars either.

Prices vary depending on where you are. Paying 50$ more for a trans. from a junkyard instead of driving hundreds of miles to get the cheaper one makes sense. Given that he hasn't posted his location, criticizing the prices of his local yard is a tough sell.
