Manual tranny to automatic

A friend of mine has an 82 Z 28 with a 4 spd manual and wants to go to an automatic. I searched in the archives and didnt find any thing on this swap. What is entailed and what is needed to do this swap from the 4 spd to the auto. Which auto would be the easier one to swap in a 700R or a turbo 350. He will probably get this done at a shop, but needs to know what parts to buy and how labor intensive this is. Any help would be appreciated.

Matt

Its not a hard swap at all really, but if he pays a shop he will no doubt be charged to much. Asking a shop to do a custom job like that is like asking to be overcharged. Which 4 speed does the car have in it now? As far as the best trans for the job, if he doesnt beat on it alot, the 700R4 would be best, because of the overdrive. If he is like me, and abuses the hell out of it, a th350 is probably better, for reasons of durability.

i went from a t-5 to a bowtie overdrive level 2. it wasnt the easiest job ive done but it was worth it. bowtie had everything i needed lines, brackets. tv etc. ended up being about 1800 for everything.
