Did I kill it?
alright guyz this is my first post. About a month ago I bough a 87 firebird with a 2.8 in it. couldnt stand it so I built a 350 to put in it. I needed a tranny so a buddy of mine sold me a tranny out of his 85 pick-up it was a 700r4 and he said it had just been rebuilt not to long ago. Still has the nice enamal on the torque converter from rebuild. Well I got the motor and tranny put in. and drove the car for maybe 1 1/2-2 days for about a tottal of 3-4 hrs. Well the I diddnt know the need of the tv cable except for downshiffting. so it wasnt hooked up cuz the carb wouldnt accept it. Well tonite the tranny shifts in to 1-2 flawlessly but 2-3 requires some high RPM's and she wont go into 4th now. Did I kill it. or is it possible i can hook up the tv and it will still be okay? this really sucks ive had my 3rd gen on the road w/ the new motor for 1 1/2 days and i already killed it.

now im not going to tell you that your tranny will be okay because id be lying not knowing 100% either way .....
what you need to do is hook it up the proper way and adjust it the proper way and then try to drive the car and see what happens...

I had one break on me. Fixed it and the trans was fine after that so theres the possibility that its ok. Jsut dont use the car untill you hook teh tv cable up. Also remember to set it so its nice and tight at full throttle.

Food for thought...
I switched to a carburated engine in my car that used to be a TPI set up, and with my 700R4 I needed to purchase a torque converter lockup kit for 4th gear. If you have a locking converter, I would HIGHLY reccomend it. Not a difficult install, and you might as well throw in a shift kit while youre at it (another easy install).
