POS torque converter won't go on...
i got this torque converter from the place that "rebuilt" my transmission and the damn thing won't go on. with that being said, i'm talking about a 700R4, and the converter is a "dacco". never even heard of that brand, but i do know it's a rebuilt. i'm getting more and more pissed off about this whole thing because they never lived up to their turnaround time, so i lost all last weekend working on the car, now this weekend is blown cuz the converter won't go on the shaft. now that i've somewhat vented, the problem seems to be that the "collar" or "shaft" of the converter seems to be thicker than the stock converter i had in there. that is the only thing i can see. when i go to install it, it will not engage the shaft and seat in all the way. i popped my old converter in there just to make sure i wasn't crazy, and sure as hell, it went right on... somebody have any insight to this type brand, or what other reason could be causing it not to go on? thanks for any help...

you mean i wasn't? actually i too thought maybe he wasn't turning it but he said the old one would fit and i'm pretty sure it just didn't fall into place.
Gotta cover all bases, there have been a few other times on here that people have said the same thing, and it turned out (or didnt turn) that they werent doing it right. Thread Starter

i have a dacco no problem installing it had 3 mounting places like the flex plate did. i would say bring it back and have em check the numbers seems all wrong. i also think dacco is new not rebuild but i could be wrong. mine was sealed in the box like new. dry and sealed. i have used them on other jobs without any problmes.

FWIW, alot of the new convertors we've installed into trannies dont just "slide right on" I can think of 3 we did this summer we went in shifts with each one of us taking our turn giving it a shot.
A GOOD new convertor has very tight tolerances and WONT just slide into place like the old worn convertor. We've even had to take a rubber mallet and tap while one guy spun before it started to take, then it was more tapping/spinning before it bottomed out.
Not saying it could'nt be the wrong convertor, just know they can be a pita sometimes.

well upon further review with some tech people, i did in fact have the wrong converter. called the shop that did the work, and after looking around, they realized they gave me someone else's stuff. so no big deal, just some time lost on the car, that's all. pretty dang hard to tell some of them things apart, though, just by looking.
