My wife's '89 has stated not upshifting into 3rd or 4th when warmed up. It has 170K on it, and runs strong otherwise. I changed the tranny oil & filter but it didn't help.

A remanufactured trans is $2340 installed, so if I can't fix this we'll have to sell the car. HELP!

 

did you try to adjust the tv cable

 

It downshifts just fine. It just started doing this all of a sudden, & now it won't go into reverse!

 

hmm that sounds like my friends car. he has no reverse and the car feels like the brakes are on.i still have to take the trans apart and find out what is wrong. but it def sounds like you need a rebuild. it only cost me 250 to do mine but thats because i did it myself. good luck

Wow, triple post, thats a new one.

As for the tranny, it sounds like it may be your 2-4 band. Time for a rebuild. $2300 is a helluva lot for a tranny, I've seen T56 swaps done for cheaper than that, look around in your local yellow pages for a tranny shop.

It looks like I may sell this to an individual as is. Does $500 sound fair?

 

500$sounds more than fair if i had 500 id buy it. but im stuck with this taurus i want to get rid of. sorry to hear that though
