Removing shifter ***?

Hi guys im swapping out my T5 trans for a built 700R4.I picked up a Hurst dual gate shifter on ebay for the swap and today at the yunk yard i got the original shifter assembly.My question is does anyone know how to get the shifter *** off of the automatic shifter handle?I dont want to brake anything so i thought id ask the pro's here first hehe.

Depending on the model, there should be a clip in the front of the **** that looks similar to a staple. Carefully get a screwdriver or a pick uder it and pull it out. The **** should slide right up after that.

Pop the button off and look inside, you will see a "C"-clip. Reomve that clip and it will pull off.

Thanx trikster i was thinking along the same lines but wanted a second opinion just incase i was wrong and broke the darn thing.
