What kind of dependability are you getting out of your rebuild? Anybody care to brag on milage on their rebuilt?:lala:

Well, the 1st time, I put the "anti-clunk" clip from the low/reverse clutch pack in the wrong spot, near the band (The spot it came out of). It lasted 20,000 miles till that clip came loose and 3rd & 2nd gears fought each other (2nd gear won). Once I fixed that, It's been runnin like a champ for 60,000 miles (this is behind a 406).
One word of caution though. When you get your rebuild parts make sure that you get the $0.50 retainer clip for the front seal. My tranny guy failed to tell me about this recall and having the seal pop out on the intersate is no fun.

Hey SB406 thanks for the reply. You would think that as many posts as I have come across saying add this shift kit , use this #stall or the corvette servo there would be more postings to my question. Guess not. Again I would like to know how the rebuilts are standing up. Those with them could help by posting. Come on guys how are they standing up? How many miles are you getting on the rebuilts?

My original trans had 235k and thousands of passes on it. It broke the case when it went. Replaced it with the same trans (stock corvette) B&M shift kit is the only mod. Change fluid and filter every year. The trans in the car now has survived a balloned converter a few hundred runs. (50 or more w/spray) and has approx 30k on it now. These tranny's are way tougher than they get credit for, when assembled correctly. Any failure I have seen in a low milage unit was a result of poor rebuild. We are about to install one in a 600 ft lb (at the flywheel),3600 lb firebird. We are hoping it hold up to this!

I rebuilt my tranny about 4 years ago, approx 40,000 miles and it's time for a rebuild now. I am slowly losing 4th gear probably due to the relatively weak holding power of the 4th gear servo/piston and the fact that I do drive the car pretty hard
!!! . This time around, I will upgrade my servo to the "super servo" and see if that helps. Once of the companies that makes it is Sonnax, it's a nice servo made from billet aluminum and it is $$$$ 90.00, but may be worth it.

Yeah,
4th gear only has 2 clutches in it, so it won't take a lot of abuse. Any time I'm gonna be stomping on it (especially above 50mph) I'll knock it outta O.D. to keep from slipping those 2 clutches when it engages with the pedal down.

I just finished my first rebuild on an automatic. It's a 700R4 in my '87 K5. It had 135,000 miles on it when it went. The last 40,000 were behind a 400 HP 350 with a 2,200 RPM converter ,a B&M shift kit, and a lot of flogging both on and off road. The trans actually blew the low/reverse roller clutch apart and sheared the front snout off the internal reaction carrier planetary gearset. Needless to say I bought a core trans to rebuild.
I got a complete road race rebuild kit from Dana at Pro-Built and a new 2,400 rpm non-lockup converter. I'm also running his modified Trans-Go shift kit.
I absolutely love the results. The trans is butter smooth at part throttle, and actually shifts better than it ever did stock, but put your foot to the floor and it acts like a sleeping pit bull that just got kicked in the ribs. It hits second gear hard enough to break the tires loose, and it never did that before! I haven't put many miles on it yet, but I have the utmost faith that it will give me many thousands of miles of trouble free motoring.
BTW, thanks ever so much to Dana. He spent a lot of time with me on the phone making sure that this thing went together right the first time. His guidance, patience, and expertise was a godsend, and without it I don't know that the results would have been nearly as good.
