88 T-5 5speed strength?
how much power would i be able to SAFELY run through an 88 T-5 without complications? i would like to ditch my 305 this winter, and either go in favor of a 350, or i just found a couple local 400's that would be kinda nice, and i'd like to know what my tranny can handle.
thanks, Adam

Get ready--there's tons of discussion on this topic. As briefly as possible: the stock WC T5 in your '88 was rated at about 300 ft. lbs. and will last as long as you don't go to slicks and power shifts. Some members have written very well on this recently, how the T5 was intended for European style touring, not American drag racing, how the enemy of a T5 is torque and good traction combined.
People will tell you to drop two grand for a T56 conversion and forget the T5, or spend the same money for a G-force or Tremec 5 speed so you don't have to use the T56 clutch stuff.
I plan on about 400-450 hp/torque max out of an old 4 bolt 350 I've got out in the barn--and when I put it in I'll get my present WC T5 upgraded and rebuilt to handle it for $700.
