Hot Rod or cheaper solution for a MC Leod Hydraulic Throw out Bearing

Is smoebody using the Mc Leod 1302 hydraulic throw out bearing?
Any cheaper ways ?380 $ forfor just a TB on a old T5 is a bad investment...!
Heard a rumor that the volvo unit will fit...????
The GM stock part is plastik? Is the Napa or Autozone part alu?
Any PIcs or links welcome......and yeah Merry X-mas to all the wrenchers out there!

Personally I don't see any reason to go with a throwout bearing when there are perfectly good OEM hydraulic and mechanical fork release parts.

There are lots of circle track and other suppliers who sell a less expensive hyd. throwout bearing to fit a T5 with its 1.375" o.d. bearing retainer.

When I bought and looked at the McLeod 1400-22, it would have required removal and installation to setup the airgap depth; basically a big pain in the butt. McLeod sells some parts without doing research on whether they truly fit.

Stick with what is simple and works.

Don't know about the Volvo unit.

Plastic, when sleeved is fine.

Mc Leod 1302 is the bolt on version!
McLeod 1400-22 is the slip on version just in case someone gets confused!

Do you know the price of a nappa or autozone replacement part?
GM stock runs for around:104 $ partnumber 12527718!
Is the partnumber covering all parts shown in my pic?

Buy LT1 T56 hydraulics, not the third gen part you posted. They fit the T5 bellhousing and have a longer, braided line.

jmd--What do you think of the McLeod master and slave cylinders and braided line being used in the Feb. Chevy High Performance T56 swap article? They mention no prices--they're putting in a 12" clutch--good grief. If sleeved plastic is OK and still avialable from GM, is there a purpose to this aftermarket stuff besides looking pretty?
And what do you think of the Weir T56 swap bellhousing?
And Merry Christmas...

The trans., bellhousing, clutch, and fork make for a "push" or "pull" clutch. The slave still pushes on the fork either way.

T5 slave bolts to T56 spacer / bell. But, the hyd. line is too short.

T56 slave bolts to T5 bell.

master cylinders are almost identical.

Just order for a 1995 Z28 6speed.

Their f-body billet master cylinder has poor quality control. Sometimes they bleed properly, sometimes they don't. I've installed one that didn't. And yes, I know how to bleed clutches thank you. When they work, they're great but all it is is a slightly larger bore master. Can't speak for the slave.

If you're breaking the plastic ones, you're doing something wrong.

Haven't looked at the Weir lately. I think McLeod makes a simple spacer to run LS1 bell & trans. & throwout with third gen clutch on a SBC; I'm going to be trying that shortly. Same idea as the Weir essentially.

machining > casting

And Happy New Year

I'm perfectly satisfied with my factory stuff, good feel, dependable, and this Camaro is never going faster than 12 secs.--if that--just a street cruiser.
Bob Weir developed his setup a few years ago on a test mule he and I and another friend (who had the $$) built in the mid-80's, a '60 Austin Healey with a 327 in it. I'm going out to Sacramento in about a month to get it.
Bob tried to avoid the hydraulic throwout bearing several ways but just couldn't get around it at the time--and now I'm inheriting it. It's a good setup but there's no way to check for leaks until it fails and soaks everything. Maybe he'll educate me further when I pick it up.

Hey german-motorsport--wish I had a foto of that Healey for you; it's a real Autobahn burner: Viper T56 with a narrowed 3.91 Chrysler 8.75" rear end, all-forged, ported and polished big journal 327 with a solid cam--an old style drag racing motor we used to run in a gasser 30 years ago, maybe 11 to 1 with a 7,000 rpm redline, conservative. No speedometer--you just hold on.

3.9x = perfect gears for a 2.66 / 0.50 T56.

My T56 is a 1995 production Camaro Z28 unit. I modified it so that I could use mechanical clutch linkage. In other words, it's a bolt-in for an 82-83 f-body or 78-81 a-body with mechanical linkage. Well, except for the speedo hookup. Uses the 82-83 F-body or Lakewood fork.

jmd--thanks for the OK on the ratio. We stripped the pinion on the 3.91 posi with a close ratio M21, put in the original 2.76 to get the car back on the street, which was OK in a 1900 lb. car. Then B.Weir put in the T56. I haven't driven it but my other friend said it could use 4.10's--I said no, I'd just rebuild the broken 3.91 and stick it back in there--wasn't sure if it was deep enough--thanks.
