T-5 to 700R4 SWAP
WHAZZZAPPPP, fellow F-BODY FRRREEAAAKS!! I'm still working on my LT1 swap and came across a killer deal in a donor car. All I want is the tranny out of it. It's an '89 RS/305/T-5 with a good body, ragged paint, ragged interior. BUT, it runs good and only needs 1st gear synchros. All the other parts I need are there. I'm taking the flywheel, bellhousing, cables, slave, fork, pedals from the donor and putting them in mine, including the T-5 of course! The questions is this: How hard is it to put the 700R4 from my car into this car so I can resell it (once I've removed all the stuff I just mentioned)? I've already sold the 305 out of my car. What all am I gonna need? Also, how big and how expensive is the 1st gear syncrho repair? Any help would be GREAT! Thanks!

If you can do the trans work yourself I would just get a master overhaul kit from Hanlon Motorsports. They are about $170 plus shipping and you'll get all new bearings, synchros, and seals. If you're going to open it up you might as well just rebuild it. My guess is you'll find nothing wrong with the synchro. Most likely the engagement teeth on the gear are fragged. The gear is about $60 I think, and easily available.
