tommorrow im goin to buy a complete rear axle for my 84 z out of an 88 iroc its a posi and has 3;42 gears also it comes with disc brakes on it how hard is it to change from drum to disc, also what all will i need????

 

a friend of mine took the disk setup from a camaro and installed it on his first gen s10. i am sure the proportioning (*sp?) valve needed to be changed and possible the mastercylinder (i know he changed it but i dont know if it was because of the swap or the fact that his needed to be replaced because of wear/tear)

 

theres probably some good posts out there or tech articles on the boards, check it out. Dont forget the 88 parking brake cables. I doubt they are interchangeable. Its a pretty easy swap. Check your brake lines and make sure they arent leaking or cracked. U can use your old hard lines. Look for leaks on the new rear end. Fix them before you put it on the car. Axle seals, pan seals, check for leaks on the rear disc brakes too. Other than that it should swap fine.

 

I'll be doing to same swap in a month or so and want to know how it went. Did you need to swap the master cylinder and proportioning valve? did you have to swap the parking brake lines? How easy was the job? are you happy with the results?

 

Been discussed many times. A search would no doubt reveal the info you require.
