Well i have a 10 bolt on my firebird and i'm not sure on my camaro (it's at the shop getting paint ) my camaro is a limited slip, does anyone know any good places to buy an upgrader/new gear kit to make it posi?

and also, when i had the break pressed all the way down, the right back tire was spinning, it wasn't gripping for squat, what's up with that?

and finally, i know this is a newbie question but, how do you tell what size gears are in there without taking it apart. i'm pretty sure i have a 3.23 in there now but don't feel like taking it apart to check any help?

 

Check the RPO code sticker in your console. The G codes are for the rear end.
GU2 - 2.73
GU4 - 3.08
GU5 - 3.23
GU6 - 3.42
GW6 - 3.27
GM3 - 3.45
GT4 - 3.73
G80 - posi
G92 - performance

The RPO code is also supposed to be stamped on the top of the right axle tube.

 

limited slip is the same thing as a posi

when you do a brakestand, the tires spin, they dont grip, thats the whole point of doing them (not saying thats a good thing)

 

If it's the factory rear end and you are sure the gears have never been changed and you can't find the RPO code on the rear. Call your local Chevrolet House, Parts Department/ give then the last 8 digits of your VIN and they can tell you everything you need to know about your rear end.

 

How do you figure that? There's no relevant information encoded in the VIN, and his car is over 20 years old.

 

last 8 didgits is car number, from thier they could prolly pull up the info on that particular car #

 

Because I've done that with all the camaro's I've ever owned. And I didn't know his car was over 20 yrs. old/ it was not posted.
I'm not sure how far they can look back (years), but that's the best way I've found if there is no RPO codes on the rear.
