Transmission problems... one of which I'm happy to have :D
Ok... got a Z/28 with a T5 in it. I traded a ****ty *** parts car for a 425 hp 383... fully running package, minus a few accessories of course, hehehehe.
Anyway... um... I know that T5 wont hold the torque from that monster. No way in hell. Where should I go for a stronger transmission? And... could a T-56 take it? Ratings are only up top 450 foot-lbs, and that 383 should be making 480ish...
Also, the clutch pedal has really high resistance and feels slow and slugging. Like I'm shoving my leg into molasses. And, it wont push back smoothly. It also wont... relaly grab the clutch it seems. If I drop the clutcha nd floor it I dont spin out, (with the stock engine thats like 200 ish hp) so much as just lean backa nd bolt like I'm doing a damn hole shot.
I know the clutch is slipping and its gonna go when the 425 hp monster gets put in, but could the pedal hydraulics have something to do with it?
Thanks in advance!

The T-5 might last a while, or it might not. Depends on how you drive it.
The T-56 seems to last pretty good in the LS1 cars; for a reasonably cheap upgrade from a T-5, that's probably the way to go. That's what I did in mine. Get the WHOLW setup from 94-97 LT1 car; it's the closest to a bolt-in.
Sounds like the clutch is either worn out or assembled incorrectly. What you describe isn't a hydraulics problem.

WHOLW? What does that stand for?
And... it more than likely is the clutch, but what the clutch (as far as I KNOW) cant explain is why the pedal feel upon compression is so.. weird, and why when it pushes back it feels like its binding or dragging.. as if whats pushing back isnt pushing back smooth, or somethings not lubricated. Maybe the throw-out bearing?
Thanks! I'm going to have to find a NON-RAINING day and get my stepdad to help change out the clutch anyway, hopefully when I'm down there I could figure out whats going on.

New development... its a 425 hp 350, not a 383. Heh.
So a bit less torque.... could I still try to wing it with a T-5 for a while or should I just go ahead and get a new tranny?
On the other hand, this is helpful becuase my rear end is a 3.73. However, its got drum rears. URGH. I need to get some discs on it

I'd be checking to find out exactly what engine you have and how much power it's putting out before worrying about the tranny. You could be getting a 225 horse 305.
