T-5?

Anyone know if a T-5 from a mustang is the same basic trans (ie, dimensions, mounting, tailshaft, etc.) with a different bell housing? The T-5's from the camaros have a really steep 1'st gear (three something) that is basically useless in my application. Also, I like the benefits of the .63 overdrive with my 4:56 gears. Has anyone tried this type of swap?

Same basic things, shifter is in a different location and could be wrong but the input shaft spline count and length are different.

In other words, it will not work, been asked quite a few times.

No it will not bolt up. Not even close.

The Mustang gear ratios are considerably wider than GM ones, with a much steeper first gear than GM ones; GM V8 ones, anyway. They're jsut about like the 6-cyl ones in these cars.

The TBI 305 cars come with a .63 5th gear.

Thanks for the reply. They're a dime a dozen, so I was just trying. Guess that settles that question!

from what ive been reading. you can put a mustang t5 in a c3corvette(my father and i own one.) for a mustang t5 to go into a gm car you need an adapter plate(found at Gforce) mustangs are 10spline clutch and then just use a gm pressure plate. im thinkin you could use a mustang t5 in a firebird or camaro with a little different adapter plate. the mustang is 1/2" longer input shaft and a chevy to ford bushing which can be bought. im not sure about our crossmember.... but the mustang t5 and gmt5 are somewhat similar in external dimensions...so i think a little modifying would be required.

Putting one into a C3 doesn't have much to do with the issue at hand. A manual transmission doesn't fit into one of these cars like it does into a C3, which doesn't rotate the trans 18°, and doesn't have a torque arm, among other things.

Go do it, and after you've done it, come back tell us it works.

Until then, it hasn't worked for anybody else.

So until you get it to work, it doesn't; and it's not very helpful to tell people stuff like that, if you're just guessing and don't know what you're talking about.
