trans question

ok. i want to get a manual trans for my swap. its an older pre 86 block(79 to be specific) 350. One person told me i cant use an lt1 t56....is this correct. I didnt think so but i wasnt sure. Also the engines gonna be making over 300hp, and plus torque. So a t5 is really just dumb. So my question is, what tranny should i use. a t56....or a tremec....any others...i dont want to spend a crap load of money. but i know that good transmissions cost money. so any info would help alot. also what flexplate do i need the one i have is chipped and missing teeth. also any suggestions for a clutch and pressure plate...?

the best and cost-effective option, would be a T-56 from a '94-'97 LT1 Camaro/Firebird (the corvett one WILL NOT work), you will need a adapter flywheel, centerforce makes one and summit sells it, as it uses a pull-style clutch(it pulls the throughout bearing, insted of pushing it), and you will need to fabracate, or buy an adapter crossmember, also the speedo uses a 40,000 pulse per mile insted of the 4,000 pulse per mile of our third gens, digital dakota makes a adapter box for this, other than those items it's a bolt in, there is also a tech artical on this site that goes over all the installition proceders, it will cover anything I missed

never really looked into it...I think it's just a beefed up T5, I'd still go with the t-56...
