700R4 OD problem

hey guys, I got a 92 RS with a 700R4, and I just got it rebuilt, and everything was fine, it would go throught all gears, only problem, I had to let it wind out further in drive to get it to shift up to OD, and now, it won't evern shift into OD. I'm not too good with trannys, but maybe somthing is out of adjustment or somthing, i don't really know. please help me out, if you need anymore info, LMK and i'll get it to you.

thanks guys,

Kyle

Where did yo;u have it rebuilt?

I would take it back and have them look at it, if it was taken out, rebuilt and installed all by the same shop then they probly have a warranty on their work, if so take advantage of it and have it looked into, before somethign esle possibly goes wrong, and your with out a car for another few days.

More than likely its the TV, or kick down cable, if its not replaced with a rebuild, it can be streatched from the previous tranny.

Hopefully it just needs to be adjusted and youll be good to go.

well, about the shop, I had a guy I know rebuild it, so its not warrented, I dropped it and put it in myself. the TV cable is adjusted properly.

My friend is in a automotive repaire class that deals alot with diagnostics and what not, he told his instructor and he thinks it could be the speed sensor(my speedo stoped doesn't work also) on the back of the tranny. He says it does somthing with OD. not sure, could that be it?

thanks for the help.

That happened to my car. Fixed the speedo and it shifted fine. BTW, my car also holds onto third a while longer before shifting into od. Anybody know what causes this?

Does your tranny have that 200-300 rpm drop like the torque converter is locking up but no overdrive shift? In other words, is your lock up converter working but your still running like 1000 more rpm's than you should be?

The reason I ask is because this sounds a lot like what I am going through too. I swapped out a tranny and torque converter and the problem still existed.

What exactly is the VSS? And, what does that cost to replace?

What are some of the symptoms if the VSS is bad?

The car wanted to shift into OD way way way too soon causing the RPM's to drop tremendously so i tried running it in just drive and it still shifted soon. i havent fiqured out what the prob. is yet so if you guys could help that would be great

Man, I'm in the same boat you are. I don't know much about trannies. This may be a stupid question but do you have a B&M Mega shifter? It's not something simple I take it like a linkage problem or something? Did you find out if your torque converter was locking up or not?

Have you checked the fluid level lately? Maybe some fluid has leaked out somewhere. I had a tranny one time that didn't want to shift until it was wound out and it was because I was really low on fluid.

I've been having similar problems with my converter lockup. Whenever I'm in third gear, the rpms will drop about 300 or so and then the car will have a shudder/vibration, and I'm not sure what is the cause of this problem. I also have a terrible vibration in 4th gear at low rpms. What's up with 700R4 transmissions!!
