Help! My slushbox wont upshift!

Help! My slushbox wont upshift!
While I imagine it would be nice in dragracing, or just to scare people... its not very good in town, especially in CARY NC with the cops all over the place.
Anywho, for some reason, my auto doesnt want to upshift. It seems to always be in the lowest possible gear it could, and sometimes it even drops too low and spikes to 6.5K! (thank *** for valve relief... but then again the ****ty cam in there probably doesnt even have enough lift to worry about it)
So um... The car is currently cooling off, and I'm wondering, WTF could make it not upshift properly? Did a vac line come off?
Edit: Its a 1980 something IROC-Z, not the car in my profile. I have two

it turns out 3rd gear is slipping... when the rpms drop in "2" when I'm in the city or the highway, I knoooww something is wrong.
But it does 'grab' a little. If I put it in OD on the highway it stops slipping excessively (practically in neutral) from "D" and drops a few rpms and if I blip the gas it does grab and move....
But what is it? Is the band for 3rd (and 4th?) Gear just worn?
Can this be repeaired or should I replace the transmission?
Also, I have a 1992 RS with a v6... can I take the auto from that and use taht on my IROC-Z, or would that make too much torque?
