700r4 problems?
700r4 problems?
My tranny is leaking from the front seal. My dad was talking to this guy who replaces transmissions and knows a lot about them and he said that the 700r4's have problems once they leak from the front. That you cannot get them to seal right ever again. He suggested just throwing a rebuilt tranny in from the get-go. He's not trying to sell us anything, he is just a friend from where my dad works...My dad is an electrican and this guy works on the trucks and stuff....have you guys ever heard of such a thing? This tranny shifts fine and I was thinking just replace all the gasket's and seals since we already have it on the floor.
thanks

That guys full of it...
Replace the common seals and gaskets and itll be fine. Remember to use a retainer on the front seal so it doesnt blow out.
Edit: While you have it out, its not a bad idea to go through the front pump and make sure its in order.

pretty much all the normal gaskets and seals that can wear and leak. O-ring for the tv cable, front/rear seals/pan/filler tube, speedo, etc.
As I said above, its not a bad idea to go through the front pump while you have it out and make sure the pump pockets and internals as well as the bushings are in good shape. Trans manual will cover how to do this.
