10 Bolt Capacity/Fluid

i have a 10 bolt with an eaton posi and 3.73 gears...got a few questions

How much does a 10 bolt rearend hold?

Which fluid should i go with? i was thinking royal purple, anybody know of something better?

which weight should I get?

Then to fill it you just un screw that bolt near the top that looks like you just stick a half inch drive in there and unbolt it right? on the passenger side..

You trying to start another food fight?

Eaton says not to use synthetic with their carrier. So does Auburn. Which means I won't use either of their products.

Petroleum based gear lube, 75W-90 or 80W-90, with posi additive.

General rule of thumb is to fill it up until it dribbles out of the fill hole.

I just rebuilt my 10 bolt, it took just under 2 bottles of gear lube plus the additive.
I used the Long cylinder type bottles. I don't have a bottle in front of me right to see if it is 1 pint per bottle.

Ben's right.

It should be less than 2 quarts (~4 pints).

just a FYI....I have a 3rd gen and a 4th gen..the 85 will hold just 2 quarts and additive with an aurburn, The fouth gen (aurburn equipped) will hold 2.25-2.5 plus additive, the case on the fourth gen is different in the "floor" of the pig which adds that extra, the fourth gen one looks alot thinner too.

running 85w- 140 valvoline in the 85 and 75w-90 redline in the 97SS
