paddle shifters

has anybody seen or installed the shrifter paddle shift system in there third gen.it looks pretty neat, the only dowside i see is you need a 4l60e or 4l80e transmission, other than that it looks like a lot fun on twistie roads which are everywhere around here.

You don't necissarily need a 4L60E/4L80E. You could do this with a T56 too. The Aston Martin Vanquish uses a paddle shift T56. Bob Hanlon saw a test car that was a Ford Mustang fitted with the paddle shift system from an AM at Fords R&D facility.

This is an incredibly intensive system. The computer side makes it nearly impossible for all but an electrical engineer, and even then you'd need significant programming ability. I don't think the average, or even above average car crafter is going to brew up a paddle shift 3rd gen in their garage. This is somethign that only an OEM with their limitless R&D budgets can make work.

On the flip side I guess you could rig up something with a full manual valvebody 700R4. The 4L60E is a problem again because of the electronics.

Good reason to go with an LS1/4L60-E swap. :hmm:
