Installing rear end....what needs to be done?
I have a complete 3.42 posi ready to go into my '91 TA. While it's out should I put in new fluid or anything? Grease anything up? Also, are the springs going to need to be removed and recompressed or does the rear do that?
I've never done one of these but I do work on my cars. Are power tools necessary?

I would change the fluid and put fresh LSD fluid in as well. Check the brakes for wear. The springs just naturally compress you put the rear in place and bolt it up.
Air tool are nice but not necessary, I've done both of my swaps without. But I think next time I use a bay at work.

I like to sand/prep/paint stuff while I have it off the car but thats really up to you. I'd definately change the fluid and posi additive. Also consider changing the E-Brake cables if they are stretched or worn, and check the bushings on the components that attach to the rearend (LCA/Panhard/Etc) and consider replacing them while everything is appart (order bushings first, drop old rear, take the parts to have bushings pressed in, then re-install everything). No need to compress any springs. If you are planning to swap any rear suspension parts now would be the time to do it.

So this would be that time, eh? I would love to lower this thing 1.5".
So I need 2 lubes for the back? Which one goes where?

I just did mine also, and while I had the rear out, I pulled off the exhaust and took the gas tank down and replaced to fuel pump to avoid that problem in the future (105k on the motor). No better time to do it than while the rear is out! As for the rear swap, its not really all that difficult to do.. Air tools will help with bolts that haven't been removed in forever, but as said its not necessary.. Just soak the bolts ahead of time with PB blaster if you're going to be wrenching away..

Yes, PB blaster is a spray. You can get it every auto parts store, most hardware stores, and large general stores.
