T-5 Tranmission

I have a stock 350 w/ 700R4 trans and want to make it 5 speed. Is the swap hard? and will the stock camaro rear end hold up? up for suggestions.

Thanks

All I can say from experience is make sure you get a newer used one with low miles or a recent rebuild. Im surprised my T5 is still going Im getting used to the grinding the transmission makes lol

also just try not to drop it in gear at too high of an rpm or race with it. it will blow T5's can't handle torque thats why GM never bolted them to the 350

The swap is not to bad it's finding all the parts you will need . A non W/C is the older one , the newer one is in 88 and above cars. The w/c class one would be much better to get . The rear is a touchy subject some people beat them up for ever, they say . My first t-5 and rear lasted 3 months with the 350 but I drove it like I stole it speed is addicting . You can have many happy miles if you get on it in the higher gear's . If you have the money and the know how I say go for it .

Dude I definitely think you need to do the swap. It can be done very cheaply. But like the other dudes said make sure you get one low miles or recent build. Or hell go pull one out of a junkyard and get it rebuilt.

I'm getting ready to do the swap soon. First I went from 700R4 to TH350, now I'm gonna go T5. I got all the swap parts I needed for free by buying a T5 parts car and parting it out. Definately go with a freshly rebuilt tranny if you're gonna drive it hard. Might even want to consider some upgrades on the rebuild. I'm gonna be doing crazy stuff with this car (car in sig) so I upgraded the rebuild to some tougher internals.

Yeah Crazy is right definitley upgrade some parts. I am going to have mine built by tko performance. He says then it should be good for about 450ft/lbs. That is more than i will ever need so hopefully it won't need a rebuild for a long time.

the swap takes about 2 days if you have all the parts. the hardest part i thought was putting in the pedals. need to brake your arm in several places. oh the bellhousing can be separated from the tranny. i didnt know this and had a pain putting the tranny on with the bellhousing. oops. make sure you get the right flywheel to. that was another oops i did.

Yes, get the tranny rebuilt! Make sure you use HI performance parts. I bolted my T5 behind my 400rwtrq 350, and it blew in about 3 weeks!
