pinion head bearing can I reuse

Ok I have installed a new posi and axles in my 10-bolt . I have the wrong pinion shim in there and need to change . I was able to get my hand's on 2 new rear bearing's one to hone out and one for the finale install , the head bearing is new . I need to know once I remove the head bearing can I reuse it for the the install . Do not have another one to hone out for a check bearing .Thank You

Plenty of folks do reuse them. I've always been on the weary side of a gear setup and used a brand new one for final install. I've heard that the bearing can distort by removing it. I didn't want to chance it on a gear install so it was a new one for me. Think the bearing is around $20. Not worth the risk to mess up a $200 set of gears + time.

I totaly agree but I have to be done with this prodject this weekend , cars time is up in gerage and the auto parts store dose not have a new head bearing . Just so I am clear the bigger bearing will be distroed when I remove it with wiz wheel but the smaller one on the yoke side should be ok . Is there any way of saveing . May have to install a few time's befor I get pinion depth correct I do however have the old one to use , but I was told that it will give a false reading as a check bearing .
