Need help identifying tranny...

Well AFAIK the person i bought the car from said the stock 700r4 was swapped with an older TH-350, When i had the motor out i saw what i presume the auto wrecker put on there "81 th-350" with a paint pen.

I am in the middle of installing a Hurst shift kit (up to 81 th-350's) in the tranny and notice that a few things dont look right. first off the very front passenger side hole in the seperator plate where the valve body bolts through is about 1" too far to the drivers side, all other bolt holes line up on it though.

Also something very wacked out, just forward of the valvebody it calls for the 2 oil transfer plates (in kit) plus a stock support plate. Mine never had a "stock support plate" it was another smaller valve body type thing that was bolted there.

Heres a link to the online instruction manual to give you guys a better idea of whats going on. Its step #12 & #13 and fig #8&9 thats got me puzzled.

Thanks in advance.

anyone???...

Do i just not make sense or what lol

I managed to make some mods to the shift kit and got it installed and seems to be working good so far, the first to second shift will bark the tires but the 2 to 3 still seems fairly soft unless i got the hammer to the floor.

the shift kit you got sounds like it is for a lock-up type th350 while you actually might have a non-lock up. does your valve body have an electrical switch on it? if so then it is a lock up type valve body. if not then it is a non-lock up. check to make sure the shift kit is for the type of valve body/ transmission that you have.
