T-5 Questions.

Hey i was also wondering if you can change a V-8 T-5 with a V-6 T-5? I work for a used car dealer and my mechanic here thinks they will interchange but i thought i should ask all you third gen gods out there. i'm skeptical because i can get V-6 T-5's for 125.00 all day but i keep getting told that the V-8 T-5's are 8-900.00. if someone can help me here i would appreciate it.

I am wondering the same thing. I heard that you could change the clutch and it would work but what I was wondering can you change the input shaft??? And would using a clutch for a 6 cylinder affect the perfomance of the clutch????

If your looking for a tranny for your car, be careful as yours is quite a bit different than a typical V6. Your car will have the world class borg warner with the 5 gear overdrive ratio of 0.74. It is quite common to find the 5 speed's with the 0.63 overdrive.

Mark.

the v-6 t-5 will work with a different clutch. actually i think just a different friction plate. the v-6 t-5s come with a 14 spline input where as the v-8s come with 26 splines. if your willing to hunt down a clutch that is 10.5 inch and 14 spline it WILL work!

Yeah that what my mechanic said. In my area we have a place called, proven force, where we get all our clutch kits and tranny parts. they have a great centerforce clutch kit for 265.00 for the
V-6. i'm just worried about the torque rating of the 6cly trans. at this point im ready to just throw in a T56 and be done with it! I want to keep it close to original as possible, so i'll get the original rebuilt and keep it for if i sell the car.

the torque and HP are the same; however, being a 14 spline and not a 26 spline it is said that the input will be prone to slipping and stripping. But the way i look at it is that you would have to be running a BB to get enough power to do that...a v-6 trans will do just fine!
