What are my chances of getting a good used t 56?

First of all these trannys are so dang expensive, if i get one used what are my chances of getting one that doesnt have any problems with it? I dont really want to put much more into it than a clutch. Is this wishful thinking?
There is one on ebay right now that i have my eyes on and it comes with pretty much everything except for the pedals and the clutch.
Another question is how much can these handle? Stock of course.

thanks
kent

The number that comes up most often is 450 ft/lbs for the 94-97 units. Some seem to last a really long time, others the synchos go out after only a 100k miles. If I were to get a t-56, I'd get a decent clutch because it can handle it more adequately than a t-5.

Oh yeah i was planning on getting a good clutch. But more than likely ill get a t56 with a little bit of life left? Just stay away from the trannys with over 100k.

I would not say stay away from trannys with over 100k, because there are numerous t-56 with 150k+ and no problems. I would just make sure a good deal didn't turn out to be too much of a good deal, if you know what I mean. If you can check the fluid before hand. And if you buy from a junkyard make sure you get a warrenty.
